Heart drug dilemma: when high potassium forces doctors to change lifesaving medications

NCT ID NCT04510792

Summary

This study aimed to understand how often high potassium levels (hyperkalemia) in hospitalized patients lead doctors to reduce or stop important heart medications called RAAS inhibitors. Researchers planned to observe adult patients in the hospital or emergency department who were taking these drugs and had a high potassium reading. The goal was to gather information to help guide future treatment decisions, but the study was withdrawn before any participants were enrolled.
