New Two-Pronged surgery targets stubborn heart rhythm disorder

NCT ID NCT05393180

Summary

This study is collecting long-term safety and effectiveness data on a two-part surgical procedure for people with a persistent form of atrial fibrillation (AF) that doesn't respond to standard medications. The procedure combines external and internal heart surgery to create scar tissue that blocks the faulty electrical signals causing the irregular heartbeat. Researchers are following 53 patients to see how well the procedure controls AF and improves quality of life over several years.
