Husbands in the OR: a new study tests if partner support during C-Sections is safe and helpful

NCT ID NCT07641751

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing whether allowing husbands to be present during planned C-sections affects how smoothly the anesthesia goes, how safe the procedure is, and how satisfied mothers feel. One hundred women having planned C-sections under spinal anesthesia will be randomly assigned to have their husband in the room or not. The researchers will measure things like how long anesthesia takes, any complications, and how happy the mothers are with the experience.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could show that having husbands present during C-sections improves maternal satisfaction without harming safety.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (100 participants) that only looks at elective C-sections, so results may not apply to all births. The presence of a husband could also distract the medical team or increase infection risk.
