ER study reveals best way to splint a broken arm for less pain

NCT ID NCT05118087

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 03, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looked at 80 adults with a broken upper arm bone (humeral shaft) to see which method of initial treatment in the emergency room is more comfortable: a pre-made brace or a traditional splint. Participants' pain, how many pain pills they took, and their arm function were tracked for two weeks. The goal was to find out which approach reduces pain and the need for strong pain medication right after the injury.
