Breast milk enema may boost preemie gut health
NCT ID NCT07558499
First seen May 13, 2026 ยท Last updated May 13, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether giving a small amount of mother's breast milk into the rectum of preterm babies can help their gut bacteria grow in a healthy way. Preterm infants often have trouble developing good gut bacteria, which can lead to serious problems like necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). The study will compare babies who receive the breast milk enema to those who receive a saltwater enema, and track their gut health and feeding progress.
