AI predicts drug failure in rare blood cancer study

NCT ID NCT05853458

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 34 times

Summary

This study aimed to confirm if two simple blood test results—hemoglobin below 15.5 g/dL and a high red blood cell distribution width—could predict which patients with polycythemia vera would not respond well to the drug hydroxyurea. Researchers planned to follow 76 adults starting hydroxyurea for the first time. The study was terminated early, so results are limited.
