Better way to catch returning cervical cancer? HPV test vs. standard check

NCT ID NCT01051895

Summary

This study aims to find out if a simple HPV test works better than the standard colposcopy exam for checking if cervical pre-cancer returns after treatment. Over 2,200 women who were treated for high-grade cervical lesions were randomly assigned to be monitored with either the HPV test or colposcopy for two years. The goal is to see which method is more accurate at spotting returning disease so women can get prompt re-treatment if needed.
