Pregnancy hormones hold key to skin disease mystery

NCT ID NCT07291193

Summary

This study aims to understand how sex hormones like estrogen and testosterone affect the skin's immune system. Researchers will compare skin samples from men, non-pregnant women, and pregnant women, both with and without the skin condition hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). By mapping immune cells in the skin, they hope to learn why HS affects women more often but can be more severe in men, and how pregnancy changes skin immunity.
