Brain injury study reveals how we imagine the past and future

NCT ID NCT06823193

First seen Mar 15, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study looks at how a specific part of the brain, the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, helps us mentally travel backward to remember past events or forward to imagine future ones. Researchers will compare people with focal brain injuries to healthy individuals to see if damage to this area affects how we think about time. The goal is to better understand how the brain organizes memories and plans for the future.
