Mind over matter: can just thinking about pain change your brain?

NCT ID NCT07407595

Summary

This study aims to understand how simply expecting pain, without actually feeling it, changes how the brain communicates with muscles. Healthy adult participants are told an inert cream might cause pain, while their brain signals are measured using safe, non-invasive magnetic stimulation. The goal is to learn how fear and anticipation might contribute to problems seen in chronic pain conditions.
