Hormone shield? study tests progesterone and testosterone against heart risks
NCT ID NCT04675788
First seen Mar 31, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study looked at whether the hormones progesterone (in women) and testosterone (in men) can reduce dangerous changes in heart rhythm caused by certain medications. 73 healthy older adults (postmenopausal women and men 65+) took either the hormone or a placebo, then received a small dose of a heart-rhythm-altering drug. Researchers measured how the heart's electrical activity changed to see if the hormones offered protection.
