Could a hormone IUD replace surgery for some endometrial cancers?
NCT ID NCT02397083
First seen Feb 16, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study tests whether a hormone-releasing IUD (Mirena) alone or combined with the drug everolimus can control or shrink early-stage endometrial cancer or its precancerous condition. About 102 women with complex atypical hyperplasia or low-grade endometrial cancer will receive the IUD, and some will also take everolimus if the IUD alone does not work. The goal is to avoid or delay surgery by using hormone therapy to manage the disease.
