HIV switch study finds two drug combos equally effective

NCT ID NCT00931463

First seen Apr 09, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study looked at 558 people with HIV whose first treatment was no longer controlling the virus. Researchers compared two different second-line drug combinations: one with standard HIV drugs plus a booster, and another with a newer integrase inhibitor. After 48 weeks, both approaches worked equally well at suppressing HIV to very low levels. The goal was to find safe and effective options for people who need to switch treatments.
