Could low natural painkillers explain HIV pain?

NCT ID NCT04787848

First seen Jan 24, 2026 · Last updated May 10, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study looks at whether people with HIV have chronic widespread pain because their bodies don't make enough natural painkillers (endogenous opioids). Researchers will measure pain sensitivity using heat, touch, and pressure tests in 200 participants, both with and without HIV. The goal is to understand the cause of pain, not to test a new treatment.
