New shot for HIV: can monthly injections beat daily pills for gut health and hidden virus?

NCT ID NCT05303337

Summary

This study aims to see if switching from daily oral HIV pills to a monthly long-acting injectable treatment has different effects on the body. Researchers will compare the two approaches in 120 people living with well-controlled HIV to see if the injectable treatment better reduces chronic inflammation, improves gut health, and shrinks hidden reservoirs of the virus. The goal is to understand if the delivery method of medication impacts long-term health beyond just keeping the virus undetectable.
