Nerve block may offer hip fracture patients a new pain relief option in the ER
NCT ID NCT02381717
First seen Mar 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 6 times
Summary
This study tested whether an ultrasound-guided nerve block (a numbing injection near the hip) works as well as standard opioid painkillers for people with a hip fracture in the emergency department. 44 adults with moderate to severe pain took part. Researchers measured pain relief using a pain scale. The goal was to see if the nerve block could be a good alternative to opioids.
