New oxygen technique may speed ventilator weaning for tracheostomy patients

NCT ID NCT07559591

First seen May 03, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This pilot study will test whether giving high flow oxygen directly through a tracheostomy tube helps critically ill patients come off mechanical ventilation faster than the usual oxygen mask. The main goal is to see if a larger study is possible, by checking how many patients agree to join and how well the treatment plan is followed. About 88 adults in the ICU who already have a tracheostomy and are ready to start weaning will take part.
