First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tested whether using a high-flow nasal oxygen device during upper endoscopy (a scope exam of the stomach and intestines) can prevent dangerous drops in blood oxygen levels in patients at high risk. 180 adults with conditions like sleep apnea or obesity were randomly assigned to receive either standard oxygen or high-flow oxygen during the procedure. The goal was to see if the special device reduces the need for extra breathing help and improves safety.
