Could stopping oxygen therapy earlier get bronchiolitis babies home sooner?
NCT ID NCT06321133
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at two ways to end high flow nasal cannula treatment in infants with acute bronchiolitis. One group stops the high flow immediately, while the other gradually reduces it. The goal is to see if immediate stopping shortens hospital stays without causing more breathing problems or readmissions. About 50 infants will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
High flow nasal cannula therapy
What this could lead to
If immediate stopping works, it could shorten hospital stays for infants with bronchiolitis, reducing stress on families and hospitals.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 infants. Immediate stopping might lead to more treatment failures or readmissions, so results may not be widely applicable.
