New drug cocktail aims to shrink lung tumors before surgery
NCT ID NCT07182708
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether taking two drugs—firmonertinib (a targeted pill) and bevacizumab (an infusion)—for three months before surgery can shrink tumors in people with a specific type of lung cancer (EGFR-mutated, stage II-IIIB). After surgery, patients may continue firmonertinib for up to three years. The goal is to see if this approach leads to no cancer cells left in the removed tissue. About 62 adults will take part across multiple centers.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Firmonertinib (a targeted cancer pill) and Bevacizumab (a drug that blocks blood vessel growth to tumors)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this combination could shrink lung tumors before surgery, potentially making surgery more effective and reducing the chance of cancer coming back.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early Phase 2 study with only 62 people, so results may not apply to everyone. Side effects from the drugs or surgery complications are possible, and the treatment may not work as hoped.
