New ultrasound treatment takes on freezing for skin cancer
NCT ID NCT07384078
First seen Feb 03, 2026 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study tests if high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) works as well as standard cryotherapy (freezing) for treating low-risk skin cancers like basal cell carcinoma and Bowen's disease. About 294 adults with small, low-risk lesions on their body (not face or hands) will receive either HIFU or cryotherapy. Researchers will check for cancer return and side effects over 5 years to see if HIFU is a good alternative.
