Sound waves zap breast lumps without surgery

NCT ID NCT03044054

Summary

This study tested whether high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) could safely treat painful, non-cancerous breast lumps called fibroadenomas. It involved 113 women with these lumps who were eligible for surgery. The goal was to see if this non-invasive procedure, which uses sound waves to heat and destroy the lump tissue, could be an effective alternative to an operation.
