Can High-Flow oxygen prevent dangerously low oxygen during awake intubation?
NCT ID NCT07384494
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy to standard low-flow oxygen in patients who need a breathing tube while awake due to a difficult airway. The goal is to see if HFNC better prevents dangerously low oxygen levels during the procedure. About 336 adults from six hospitals in China will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a safer way to keep oxygen levels up during awake intubation, reducing complications.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage trial, and results may not apply to all patients. The intervention is a device, not a drug, so benefits may be modest.
