First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether adding special agents (FloSeal® or Surgicel®) to standard suturing during partial nephrectomy reduces bleeding and other complications. 150 patients with localized kidney tumors were randomly assigned to one of three groups. The main outcomes were bleeding, urine leaks, and cancer-free margins.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- FloSeal® (gelatin-thrombin matrix) and Surgicel® (oxidized regenerated cellulose)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that using these agents during kidney tumor removal reduces bleeding and other complications, improving recovery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a completed trial, so results are available. However, it is a single-surgeon study with 150 patients, so findings may not apply to all hospitals or surgeons.
