First seen Jan 22, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding a small muscle cut (lateral internal sphincterotomy) to standard open hemorrhoid surgery helps reduce pain and bleeding after the operation. 120 adults with severe (grade III or IV) hemorrhoids took part. Researchers measured pain and bleeding at several points over two weeks after surgery to see which method worked better.
