Simple filter tested to ease breathing struggles after throat surgery
NCT ID NCT06084611
Summary
This study looked at whether long-term use of a special breathing filter could help people who have had their voice box removed. The filter, called a heat and moisture exchanger (HME), is worn over the neck stoma to warm and moisten air before it enters the lungs. Researchers measured if using this device for a long time reduced coughing, phlegm, and shortness of breath, and improved sleep and overall quality of life for 80 participants.
