First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study looked at 1,444 adults who had heart valve replacement surgery using a heart-lung machine. Researchers wanted to see if spending more time on the machine (120 minutes or longer) raised the risk of stomach and bowel problems after surgery. They tracked things like how soon bowel sounds returned and a gut injury score. The goal was to better understand and predict these complications.
