New heart surgery fluid additive aims to reduce muscle damage

NCT ID NCT07426237

Summary

This study aims to see if adding a natural substance called adenosine to the standard protective fluid used during heart surgery improves protection of the heart muscle. Researchers will compare 60 adult patients having elective heart surgery—half receiving adenosine in their protective fluid and half receiving a placebo. They will measure heart muscle injury through blood tests, heart imaging during surgery, and track recovery needs like medication support.
