Simple cut during heart surgery may prevent dangerous rhythm problems

NCT ID NCT07266935

Summary

This study tested whether making a small, extra opening in the heart's protective sac during surgery could prevent a common and serious complication called atrial fibrillation. Researchers in Yemen randomly assigned 210 patients having elective heart surgery to either receive this technique or standard care. They then monitored patients to see if it reduced irregular heartbeats and other complications after surgery.
