Heart surgery breakthrough: recycling machine blood cuts need for donor transfusions

NCT ID NCT06824753

Summary

This study tested whether giving patients back their own blood left in the heart-lung machine after bypass surgery could reduce the need for donor blood transfusions. Researchers compared 60 patients who either received this recycled blood or did not, measuring blood clotting and transfusion needs. The goal was to see if this simple method could help patients recover with fewer complications and less reliance on donated blood.
