Heart stent showdown: which imaging tool saves more lives?

NCT ID NCT04111770

Summary

This study compared two imaging methods used to guide stent placement in a critical heart artery (the left main coronary artery). 806 patients were randomly assigned to have their stent procedure guided by either an ultrasound tool inside the artery (IVUS) or by standard X-ray pictures (angiography). Researchers followed patients for up to 2 years to see which method resulted in fewer heart attacks, strokes, deaths, or repeat procedures.
