New drug aims to protect hearts during surgery

Summary
This study is testing if carefully controlling heart rate during and after major surgery can reduce heart injury in at-risk patients. It will use a fast-acting heart rate medication called landiolol in 114 adults over 45 with heart risk factors. The main goal is to see if this approach is practical and safe before launching a larger trial to see if it actually prevents heart damage.
