Heart scan may predict breathing tube success in ICU patients

NCT ID NCT07075926

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple heart ultrasound can help doctors decide the best time to remove a breathing tube from ICU patients. About 50 adults on ventilators will get a heart scan right before their tube is removed. Doctors will then watch them for 24 hours to see if they can breathe on their own without needing the tube again. The goal is to find a better way to predict success and avoid complications.
