Hospital heart pill test aims to keep patients home and healthy
NCT ID NCT07038356
Summary
This study is testing whether patients hospitalized for worsening heart failure should continue taking their specific heart medication (empagliflozin) during their hospital stay, instead of stopping it. About 536 adults already on this type of medication will either keep taking it or receive a placebo pill while hospitalized, then all will take the actual medication after discharge. Researchers will check if continuing the pill helps patients avoid death, another heart failure hospitalization, or worsening kidney function over 90 days.
