Blood test may guide safer heart failure discharge

NCT ID NCT03103932

First seen May 11, 2026 · Last updated May 11, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether measuring a heart failure biomarker (NTproBNP) in the blood can help doctors decide the best time to discharge patients from the hospital. About 750 adults admitted for worsening heart failure will be randomly assigned to either usual care or a discharge plan guided by their biomarker levels. The goal is to see if the biomarker-guided approach helps patients spend more days alive and out of the hospital during the first month after discharge.
