New device aims to bridge dying hearts to Life-Saving surgery
NCT ID NCT03836482
Summary
This study is testing a special blood-filtering device for patients in intensive care with severe, long-term heart failure whose kidneys are also failing. The goal is to see if the device is safe and can improve heart and kidney function enough so these very sick patients can become eligible for a life-sustaining heart pump (LVAD) surgery. The device works by filtering out certain inflammatory cells from the blood, which may help the heart and kidneys recover temporarily.
