New hope for 'Hidden' heart attacks: drug trial targets damaged small vessels

NCT ID NCT05198791

Summary

This study is testing if a medication called eplerenone can help patients who have had a heart attack or heart injury, but whose main heart arteries are not blocked. The problem may instead be with their tiny blood vessels. Researchers in Scotland will enroll 400 patients, use a special wire during a standard heart scan to check for small vessel disease, and then randomly assign some patients with this condition to receive either eplerenone or usual care to see if it reduces heart damage.
