Balloon Pilots' ears under fire: new study checks hearing and balance

NCT ID NCT07200310

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looked at whether hot air balloon pilots—who are exposed to loud burner noise, pressure changes, and motion—have more hearing loss, ear tube problems, or balance issues than people with similar backgrounds who don't fly. About 105 adults took part in simple, non-invasive hearing and balance tests. The results may help create better safety guidelines for pilots.
