Summary
This study tests whether sending a mailer before a doctor's visit encourages older adults and people with serious illnesses to officially name a healthcare proxy—someone to make medical decisions if they cannot. Researchers will randomly assign 10,000 participants to either receive one of several versions of an informational mailer or receive no mailer. The main goal is to see which approach, if any, leads more people to formally document their chosen proxy in their medical record.
