Scientists bank tumor samples in hunt for better cancer predictions

NCT ID NCT01644786

Summary

This study collected and stored tumor tissue samples from 419 patients with head and neck cancer to create a research biobank. The goal is to enable future scientists to analyze these samples to find genetic markers that might better predict a patient's chance of survival or cancer recurrence after treatment. Patients underwent their normal diagnostic procedures, and a small extra piece of one biopsy was saved for this future research, with no change to their treatment plan.
