New head lice lotion could beat old shampoo in Head-to-Head trial

NCT ID NCT07191457

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares a new head lice lotion (Elimax Green Lotion with Emogreen) to a standard lice-killing shampoo (Walgreens Lice Killing Shampoo). About 86 people aged 6 months and older with active head lice will use one of the two treatments. Researchers will check how well each treatment clears lice and nits after 10 days, and monitor for any skin or eye irritation. The goal is to see if the new lotion works as well or better than the shampoo.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Elimax Green Lotion with Emogreen (a physically acting lotion) and Walgreens Lice Killing Shampoo (containing piperonyl butoxide and pyrethrum extract)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a new, effective head lice treatment that may be gentler on the scalp and less likely to cause resistance.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 86 participants. The new lotion may not work better than the existing shampoo, and results may not apply to everyone. Skin or eye irritation is possible.
