Head-Up position may ease tube insertion in simulated difficult airways

NCT ID NCT05671978

First seen Jan 31, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study looked at 182 adults having surgery under general anesthesia. To mimic a difficult airway, doctors used a neck-stabilization technique. They compared two positions: lying flat with the head neutral versus raising the head so the ear and breastbone were level. The goal was to see if the head-up position made it easier to insert a breathing tube using a special video laryngoscope. The study measured how long intubation took and whether extra steps were needed.
