Could new tests slash unnecessary antibiotic use in hospital pneumonia?

NCT ID NCT05483309

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looked at whether using CT scans and a rapid germ-identification test (called FAPP) can improve how doctors diagnose and treat hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP). About 220 adults with suspected HAP took part. The goal was not to prove these tests work, but to see if a larger, full-scale trial is possible. Researchers also interviewed patients and staff to refine the trial design.
