New muscle technique aims to loosen neck knots and boost grip strength

NCT ID NCT07591259

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a hands-on technique called Integrated Neuromuscular Inhibition (INIMT) for people with painful muscle knots in the upper neck. 60 adults with trigger points will receive either INIMT plus standard therapy or standard therapy alone for four weeks. Researchers will measure changes in hand grip strength, pain, and wrist movement.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Integrated Neuromuscular Inhibition Technique (INIMT) — a combination of pressure, stretching, and muscle energy methods

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to ease neck pain and improve hand strength in people with muscle trigger points.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (60 people) comparing two physical therapy methods. Results may not apply to everyone, and the technique may not outperform standard care.
