Can better shoes or surgery fix hammertoe walking problems?

NCT ID NCT07166016

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at how hammertoe deformities change the way people walk and whether treatment can help. Thirty adults with hammertoe will try either conservative care (like special shoes or orthotics) or surgery. Researchers will measure foot pressure during walking and ask about quality of life to see which approach works best.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could show which treatments best improve walking comfort and daily life for people with hammertoe.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It compares existing treatments, not a new breakthrough.
