New electric pulse treatment for enlarged prostate aims to fix urination without affecting sex life

NCT ID NCT07572097

First seen May 19, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a new procedure called High-Frequency Irreversible Electroporation (H-FIRE) for men with an enlarged prostate. Unlike standard surgeries that use heat or cutting, H-FIRE uses short electrical pulses to destroy blocking tissue while sparing nerves and muscles. The goal is to relieve urinary symptoms as effectively as standard surgery, but with fewer side effects like loss of ejaculation or bladder control. About 288 men aged 50 and older will be randomly assigned to receive H-FIRE or standard surgery and be followed for 12 months.
