Gut bacteria clues could spot liver damage early

NCT ID NCT07284862

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study looked at 40 people with alcohol-related liver disease to see if tiny pieces from gut bacteria (called peptidoglycans) are linked to liver injury. Participants provided stool samples, which were tested for their ability to activate a specific immune sensor. The goal was to find out if these bacterial fragments could serve as new biomarkers for screening or diagnosing alcohol-related liver disease.
