Scientists probe Gut's role in why HIV patients age faster
NCT ID NCT05078957
Summary
This study aims to understand how the community of bacteria in the gut (the microbiome) changes over five years in older adults whose HIV is well-controlled by medication. Researchers want to see if changes in these gut bacteria are connected to signs of faster aging and increased frailty, which people with HIV often experience earlier than those without the virus. The study will not test a new treatment but will collect stool samples and health data to learn more about these connections.
