Can hyaluronic acid help grow back receding gums?
NCT ID NCT07520539
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adding cross-linked hyaluronic acid through microneedling after gum surgery can improve gum thickness and cover exposed tooth roots better than microneedling alone. It involves 22 adults with a single gum recession and thin gums. Participants will receive gum surgery followed by microneedling with or without hyaluronic acid, and results will be checked at 6 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

cross-linked hyaluronic acid
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a better way to treat gum recession, improving gum thickness and covering exposed tooth roots.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 22 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment involves surgery and microneedling, which carry risks like pain, swelling, or infection.
