Gum surgery showdown: which technique covers exposed roots best?
NCT ID NCT07239180
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two surgical techniques to treat single gum recession defects, where the gum has pulled away from the tooth. One method uses a tunnel without cuts, the other adds a small cut. The goal is to see which covers the exposed root better and is less invasive. The trial will involve 24 adults with at least 2 mm of gum recession.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
surgical procedure (tunneled coronally advanced flap or modified coronally advanced tunnel with connective tissue graft)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could identify a less invasive surgical option for covering exposed tooth roots, improving gum health and appearance.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 24 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Both procedures are surgical and carry risks like infection or incomplete coverage.
